Woodlot management

Our partners ensure the forest operations on easement properties are held to the highest standard of ecological forestry.

Woodlot management partnerships are key to the success of the NSWWT. Each property we place under easement requires a recent management plan, and we work with trusted professionals to provide advice that will ensure the future success of your woodlot.

The NSWWT is part of the Family Forest Network (FFN), a group of small-woodlot organizations that are aiming to assist private woodlot owners in adopting and maintaining sustainable resource management practices through outreach, demonstration and research. The launch of the NSWWT is a component of the FFN, and we are drawing from their pool of highly trained and respected forestry professionals to initiate management planning on NSWWT easement properties.

Ecological forestry is the only type of forest management allowed on properties that hold an easement through NSWWT. That said, just because it’s permitted doesn’t mean you have to actively manage your woodlot.

What is Ecological Forestry?

Ecological Forestry is the act of harvesting trees in a way that mimics the natural processes of a forest and encourages biodiversity, natural regeneration and perpetuates ecosystem function.
