Carbon Program

Let your woodland's carbon support its protection.

The Nova Scotia Working Woodlands Trust is working with carbon developers who are interested in purchasing forest carbon credits. To access carbon markets, we are creating an aggregated pool of easement properties across the province, collectively contributing to carbon sequestration efforts.

We are seeking properties that meet the following criteria:

  • over 200 forested acres, or at least 100 acres within 20km of existing Easement properties (contact us to learn more)

  • a high component (more than 50%) of mature forest (60 years or older)

  • special stewardship value

If you think your woodlot might qualify, we invite you to reach out to us, and we can share more insights on the process of entering into an easement.

Carbon agreements are integrated into our easement agreements, allowing NSWWT to access carbon markets through this aggregated pool. The carbon agreement covers the costs of the easement’s endowment and stewardship activities, such as monitoring and management plans, ensuring the long-term protection and care of your property.

The carbon stored in your woodlands will fund its long-term preservation through an easement, protecting your stewardship legacy and goals with the support of dedicated professionals.
